North East Rowing on-line
Northern Rowing Council - Land Training Centre Report 2005 by Malcolm Proud

2005 has continued to be another record year as far as athlete numbers using the ergo room are concerned. On top of the heavy Durham Student usage and of course St. Leonard's' School Boat Club, there have been a number of other Student and major Clubs, (predominantly Junior members) from most of the North east rivers attending. It is now not unusual to have upwards of 200 athletes attending in a single evening which can start at 4.30pm and finish after 9.00! The centre is used every day of the week except Fridays. Hopefully everybody has been catered for satisfactorily but once again special thanks should go to St. Leonard's School for their continued support in the partnership. Equipment additions continue as funds become available but I am equally aware that as the asset value increases so does the cost of maintenance and renewal.
As reported in previous years many of the College groups are unable to receive support from the University as far as facilities and coaching are concerned, presumably through the large numbers of athletes already involved, and therefore many of them continue to request training programmes and individual coaching as part of their sessions. I can safely say that the centre is a major contributor to increasing rowing standards in the region. A varied range of services are available as listed below:

Ergo Training for technique
Ergo Training for fitness / Monitoring achievement levels.
Ergo Training on Sliders .
Ergo Training programmes developed to link in with individual requirements.
Free Weights circuits
Dyno Weights Sessions / Monitoring strength levels
Fixed Weight circuits
Body Weight circuits

As in previous years, the charges received still do not cover all the material running costs and so the centre continues to be heavily subsidised. Also I can confirm that no wages or expenses have been paid to any individual, the centre being totally dependant on voluntary support for supervision, coaching etc. .
Groups wishing to use the centre must contact me to discuss individual requirements
and availability on-the below telephone number.
