Sunday League - Round 4 - Cambois - 6 August 2023

Entry fee

The entry fee was £20 per team

The weather was great with the sun out much of the time and a threatened breeze was hardly noticeable. The Friday night Met Office forecast for race day had said winds at 12 mph gusting up to 20 mph from the north, temp 16°C, sun or light cloud, low chance of rain, so pretty accurate except for the wind.

Timings were as usual :

Registration from 11:00

Issuing of numbers at 11:30

Racing started: 12:20

Racing ended about 3.15pm, so thanks to very efficient organisation (and low wind).

There parking at the club was for trailers only (well, the one trailer) and club officials. Rowers were asked to park in the public car park over the road as shown on the map.

Results and league table

The event on 6 August saw five women’s teams and six open teams in some excellent rowing, with a number of near photo finishes. We had a clear four out of four wins by Hexquisite in the women’s but in open only two three out of fours. The results from Cambois are available as a pdf or a large jpg by clicking on the first image below.

Looking at the bigger picture, the overall league table after this round is here as a pdf or as a large jpg by clicking on the second image below. We now have two clear table toppers in each category. In the women’s category Tarnettes have pulled clear of Tarc-ing Heads, having had three wins against Tyne’s two. Tyne lost their other two races both in the last few yards, and were disappointed to have come so close to leading overall.

In the open category, we also have a clear leader now, but with two teams second equal. Berwick Expedition Crew are in front on 20 points, just ahead of Tynemouth Seals (whom they raced and beat) and Hextraordinary both on 19. Newcomers Cambois Cavalry won one race and pulled ahead of Tarntastic who have not returned since Round 1 at Tyne.
