Event details

 

Berwick LDS - 2 October 2021 - cancelled due to forecast high winds

Was to be hosted by Berwick ARC. Single division; no associated SBH. Boating planned from Tweed Green (Blakewell Road), Tweedmouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 2HG. Limit of 60 entries. Distance a long 5000m. Start time 12.00 noon.

Tees LDS and SBH - 9 October 2021

Hosted by Tees RC. Morning LDS started 10.30am and afternoon SBH with sweep (run by Tees RC) started at 3.00pm. Limit in each was 200 crews. Distance 5000m on non-tidal river.

Tyne LDS and Tyne United SBH - 16 October 2021

The LDS was hosted by  Tyne ARC and Tyne United RC. Morning LDS started at 10.30am and afternoon SBH with sweep (run by TURC) started at 2.30pm. Limit in each was nominally, but exceeded in LDS130 crews. Distance 4500m. Low  tide of 1.40m at 7.50am and high tide of  4.48m at 2.05pm (at Newburn).

The morning LDS is hosted by  Cambois RC. The afternoon SBH is run by them. The LDS starts at 10.30am and afternoon SBH with sweep starts at 2.30pm. Limit in each is 100 crews. Distance 2250mapprox (shorter than shown on poster).

The LDS on the lower Wear is hosted by  City of Sunderland Rowing Club.  No associated SBH. The race starts at 12.00pm. Distance 4750m approx. Boating for low numbers starts at 10.00am.

Durham - 6 November 2021

The LDS on the upper Wear is hosted by  Durham ARC. There is an associated SBH in two divisions in the afternoon. The LDS race starts at 9.30am. Distance 1800m.

Series background

 

The Northern Rowing Council, with the help of host clubs, runs the Long Distance Sculling (LDS)  series every autumn. We aim to have six competitions over six consecutive weekends, though poor conditions can intervene.

    

The LDS series is for sculling boats only - singles, doubles, quads and octuplets (not all locations). They are open to all age groups and categories. There are prizes for winning crews in each competition and a Victor Ludorum for clubs over the series as a whole.

 

There are associated but independent Small Boats Head (SBH) competitions with sculling and sweep in the afternoon on four of the six days.
