Southwick Rowing Club



Chronology

1918
  • Vol 3 of Peter Gibson's Photographs of Southwick-on-Wear show the 1918 Program for their open 4-oared handicap Grand Regatta. They held 20 heats in the first round on the 1st day with a 2nd round then a 3rd & 4th then a final. Other water sports were on offer, with a watch as a prize for a greasey pole match. There were mostly Southwick RC crews, 1 Glagow RC, 2 South Hylton, 1 North Hylton RC and a crew fom St. Lawence RC.
  • 1930s
  • A club sculler, Frank Cunningham, drowned when he capsized after hitting a moored ship on the Wear at Southwick, Sunderland.
