It’ll be OK on the day!
The winds in the forecast for 3 March were frightening a few days before due to approaching Storm Freya. But the winds mostly missed us during the day and on the Sunday it was generally calm. Temperatures were not at the preceding weekend’s record February highs, so coxes and the launch driver got a bit cold! But good conditions for racing, even for the more novice crews.
Thanks to everyone at Tyne ARC for putting on a great event despite the uncertainty about the weather. Results are downloadable below. Please also see a photo of the new trophies kindly crafted in Laburnum by Stewart Allan from Durham. Beautiful!
Honours went to Tyne ARC in both Open and Women's leagues. ChicoTyne won 4 races
out of 4 to get the maximum 8 points in the Open, and Tynequila 3 out of 3 for 6
points in the Women's. Close Encounters (DUR) and Tynemouth Buoys (TYM) shared second
place in the Open on 7 points, and Tynemouth Gulls (TYM) were runners-
