On the Friday the Met Office forecast for race day was up 21 mph winds, gusting up to 39 mph. It was forecast from the west so against the incoming tide. High tide was about 4.00pm and a highish one at 4.75 metres. Not good! again

Timings would have been as usual :

Registration from 11:00

Draw at 11:30

Racing start 12:00

Racing end no later than 16:00

Food and drinks would have been available.

What to wear

Competitors were advised to wear shoes (definitely not wellies) and ones they didn't mind getting wet; the stretchers in the Tynemouth RC boats only had straps, so trainers or wetsuit boots were advised. Rowers were also told they would also be getting wet, up to knee deep or higher, so they were asked to bear this in mind when choosing clothing.

Parking was close by, either in the free unrestricted car park opposite the top of the steep road down to the clubhouse or at Spanish Battery on the point above the club, which is chargeable.
