Sunday League 2022 - Round 5 - Tynemouth - 7 Aug 22
Back to the seaside and the waves
This was the first time for a long time at Tynemouth. The swell was enough to limit
the course length, but still allowed good racing. Highlight of the series for many.
It was billed as Sculling Splash ‘n’ Dash, with the emphasis on splash!
We started half an hour early for this round:
Registration from 10:30
Draw at 11:00
Racing started at 11:30
Racing ended by15:30
Special arrangements at Tynemouth -archive for future reference
Prior’s Haven car park (opposite the slope that leads to the clubhouse) is free and
with an unrestricted time limit on Sundays. However, there are limited spaces and
it’s difficult to get one during the summer months.
Spanish Battery car park (on the headland above the club) is pay and display (an
app may be required) and it is £3.00 to park for a whole day.
Low Lights car park is about 12-15 minutes walk away (along the river) at North Shields
Fish Quay is free and not time restricted. There are road works which means access
via Tanner’s Bank isn’t possible, diversions are in place or check your maps for
Tynemouth boats don’t have fitted shoes, just Velcro straps. Old trainers or surf
shoes are recommended - they will get wet when getting in and out. The water is likely
to reach knee level or slightly higher. We tend to wear shorts or short Lycra leggings.
Results from previous round at Hexham
Last time at Hexham we had 6 open entries (some mixed) and 4 women’s entries. Each
crew raced twice round the Skills course and the points were calculated on the basis
of these. See the Hexham page for times then and then points coming into this round.

Tarn round in September. Click on the image for a larger jpg or here for a pdf. The

Entries for Tynemouth were made in the usual way by email on the Excel form to Pam
Walton by the preceding Wednesday. See the home page for details.
